My grandparents, father and aunts made frequent trips from Colorado to New York. My grandfather was born in Ohio but spent his early youth in the Bronx. When his mother passed away he was raised by a maternal aunt and uncle, who also lived in New York.
In the early 1980s I lived in Bergen County, New Jersey, a 40-minute ride to New York City via the Holland Tunnel. New York City in the 1980s formed many fond memories for me. The older photos of New York in my grandfather’s archive bring me a lot of pleasure. I can compare them to 2017 New York and 1982 New York. So much has changed, yet so much remains recognizable, even today.
