Nestled in my grandfather’s archive I found this family portrait. That’s me on my mother’s lap and my father sits next to her.
My mother’s hair owns this photo. Without a doubt. The style reflects how women wore their hair in the late 1960s. Check out Joan Holloway from Mad Men.

My mother’s hair looks higher than Joan’s. She had to make it so. My mother never missed a glamour photo when she had the chance and so she primped for this family photo. My dad and I got gussied up for it, too. We probably had this taken at the Montgomery Ward store in Houston. My father managed the store and probably received a discount.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As I said to a commenter on Instagram about my mother’s hair. “It is spectacular – a perfectly coiffed waterfall of hair.”
